Wyclef For President!

President of Haiti that is. It’s offical yall! The Grammy winning MC, singer, producer, father and activist *catches breath* Wyclef confirmed the rumors that he will in fact be running for office via CNN’s own Wolf Blitzer. As you watch this interview you’ll see that Wolf goes hard on Wyclef with the questions as he has with any political figure on his show and Clef hold his own like a champ.

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41a0FYJbQXo

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lawL8Ku0jrs&feature=channel

Actor Sean Penn is pretty skeptical of Clef running for President and puts him on super blast in this interview shortly after his announcement

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6UK8lf6o3c&feature=channel

His early start at a presidential campaign is very reminiscent of Obama’s in the sense that he’s the under dog in this race with not having any sort of political background. Clef even mention’s in his interview with Wolf that he plans to follow in Baracks footstep’s with his campaign by doing a lot of what Barack did as far as hitting the internet strong and using his connections/ relationships to raise money. I believe Wyclef has a great chance at winning. The people of Haiti love and believe in him. He’s all ready the ultimate inspiration to his people being born and bred in the slums of Haiti and coming out of it the successful person that he is today never forgetting his roots. And dammit if Arnold Schwarzenegger’s punk ass can be the Governor of California then Wyclef should have no problem at all being President of his born Country.

Hey Clef! I have one hell of an idea to add to your campaign! Remix you “If I Were President” single you know by taking out the assassinated part and making it Haiti friendly lol

Wyclef Jean- If I Were President

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pq_3OheqzU

I back Wyclef in his campaign 100% Haiti need’s change just like we needed change. Plus the picture I took with him below at his show that my sister and I opened up for will be even extra special! “Yeah that’s me with the President of Haiti yall!” lol

John Legend’s little nephew + wack supervision= Broken Grammy

*announcers voice* “And the Ass Whooping of the Year goes to… *drum roll*… John Legends little nephew!” *applause*

So apparently John’s little nephew was at his apartment and who ever was suppose to watch him wasn’t watching him good enough because he some how managed to get a hold of one of Uncle John’s prized possession’s which was his Grammy that he won for 2005’s Best R&B Album  “Get Lifted.”

BAM!!!!!!!!!

John was actually pretty cool about the messed up situation as he’s joked about the situation on his @JohnLegend twitter page…

A lot of John’s followers on his twitter agreed with me that his nephew needed some type of discipline for the big break. “It was truly an accident,” he responded. “I’m just gonna have to nephew-proof my apt. a little better.” Apparently John’s messed up situation caught wind to the Award show via Twitter as he received a tweet from them saying

@TheGRAMMYs “Don’t worry, we can send a replacement GRAMMY Awards to you.” John later jokingly replied “The Grammy’s twitter response was the bailout plan his nephew needed. Plus, he still has five other Grammys — no sweat.” I for one would still whoop that ass. lol

What would you guys do?

Fresh from the Fridge: Dirty Money featuring Drake- Hurt (single)

I’ve had this single in my “exclusives vault” for a hot sec and it is by far one of my favorite singles. Lost count on how many times I’ve listened to this track and for the longest I thought it was a Drake single with a random singer friend of his. Come to find out it’s an official Dirty Money track off they’re new up and coming album  “Last Train To Paris.”

Puff’s singing is pretty damn decent on this track along with Drake’s harmonizing and bar’s towards the end. Nice beat. Love love love the hook. Super catchy, original, and I can relate to a time in my life where I loved someone more then I loved myself *tear drops* lol Dirty Money’s album is expected to drop in the fall 2010 sometime. Till then enjoy this single before the radio gets a hold of it cause I can guarantee this will be a track that they play out.

Goodbye Alicia Keys… Hello Alicia Beatz!

*Swizz Beatz voice* “It’s wedding time!” Alicia has finally married her long time boyfriend since 2008, “rapper” and record producer Swizz Beatz during a very small and private ceremony on the Mediterranean Sea in Italy this Sunday (August 1st). The 29 year old Alicia who is currently pregnant with her first child from Swizz walked down the isle in stunning cream Grecian-style dress showing off her little baby bump as gorgeous as she want’s to be. For the record this will be Swizz’s 4th child making Alicia his 3rd baby mama. Now thats a catch!

Since I wasn’t invited to the wedding due to the secret relationship Alicia and I had before Swizz *tear drops* I managed to find some photo’s of the wedding for you guys to view. I still love you Alicia!!!!! lol : o )~

Alicia and her parents

Beatz son Nasier latched on to Step Mom to be Alicia Keys and father Kasseem Dean aka Swizz Beatz

Alica and Swizz ready to tie the knot

Alicia throwing up the bouquet. Wonder who caught it. Hmmmmm

Swizz and 1st born Nasier

This seemed to be the weekend of big weddings as T.I. finally married Tiny after 9 years of being together in a star studded ceremony on Saturday (July 31) and the biggest of the 3 (why I dont know) was Chelsea Clintons wedding which was on Saturday as well which supposedly cost and estimated 5 million dollars to pull off!

Fresh from the Fridge: Eric Benet- Sometimes I Cry (single/video)

Eric Benet is officially back! And boy let me tell yall Eric Benet sings the shit outta this song! This is the definition of falsetto Dream! I honestly didn’t know Eric had vocals like this but then again if I were to mess up on Halle Berry like he did I’d probably gain this range myself. lol She’s definitely gotta be the inspiration for this track. Hell the title says it all.

Dru Hill Inside and Out (The dirt, reality show, updates, 2010 album review/preview)

“Oh yeah I remember Dru Hill.” “Damn Dru Hill is back?!” “Dru Hill were the shit!” “What in the world happened to them.” Your thoughts were something like that right?

Those were just a few thoughts that crossed my mind when I did a little research on the group and I’m sure some crossed yours as well huh? So to answer those thoughts… yes they’re back. The new album is entitled “InDRUpendence Day” which is set to be released July 27th 2010. Yes they were the shit cause “Tell Me What You Want, 5 Steps, Sleeping in My Bed, and These Are the Times” were my cuts! I remember the Musketeer/ Man in the Iron Mask themed video like it was yesterday! lol Great video’s to the single’s.

So what in the world happened to Dru Hill? Wellllll let me break it down for ya…

Dru Hill Break Down (past present and future)

  • Founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1992
  • In early 1996 Dru Hill (Jazz, Sisqo, Woody, Nokio) signed to Island Records.
  • Dropped they’re first self titled album shortly after in November which went gold.
  • Between 1996 and 1998 the group did 2 monster sound track singles. (Soulfood- Were Not Making Love No More and How to be a Player- Bad Mamma Jamma)
  • In 1998 the group dropped they’re second album Dru World Order which went double platinum and had the hit single How Deep is Your Love off the Rush Hour soundtrack
  • In April of 1999 during the music video shoot of Wild Wild West member Woody quit feeling a need to return to his gospel roots
  • Between 1999 and 2000 each member put out a solo album. Sisqo who went pop who blew the hell up with his “Thong Song” and other singles, Jazz a traditional R&B/soul album, Nokio a hip hop album, and Woody a gospel album.
  • In November 2000 all 4 members got back together and added a random 5th who I don’t even remember named “Scola” to work on they’re 3rd album entitled “Dru World Order.”
  • Dru World order was released in 2 years later in 2002 because of old beef with the group and bad chemistry in which Siqo put out his second album “Return of the Dragon” which didn’t do so good along with Dru World Order….SHOCKER!
  • In 2008 the 4 original member’s ditched the Scola because having a 5th member was messing with they’re money as they say and began a reunion tour with Tony! Toni! Tone!, Bel Biv Devoe and Keith Sweat.
  • Then on March 6, the group appeared on WERQ, a Baltimore radio station, to promote their reunion live on air and this happened..

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4toUG-tZItU

  • The group held a contest in their native Baltimore for a replacement for Woody, settling upon a new singer, Antwuan “Tao” Simpson.
  • To boost the “New Dru Hill” Keith Sweat come up with the very unoriginal idea to put the members in a mansion to live together and film every moment of they’re trial’s and tribulations to gaining stardom again. I saw a few commercials for this on BET a while back but apparently BET dropped the show and some random channel called Centric that I never even heard of picked it up. The first episode aired on June 28th 2010 which I watch online a few minutes ago here… Keith Sweats Platinum House

The reality tv series has a very low budget scripted feel to it. Especially when Keith Sweat is sitting in his chair setting up the scene’s. I’d honestly prefer him to “whine” a song as much as that hurts me to say. lol The new member Tao says that he’s brings a new young energy to the group but by the look of him he’s seem to look the oldest out of them all in my mind. Jazz gained a ton of extra pounds but still can sing all of the ass he gained off. Sisqo looks like an out of shape woman. Nokio out of all the member still looks the same and seems to be in great shape. Big ups to him for still keeping it together.

Now onto the album review. InDRUpendence Day.

1. Shut It Down 3:51
2. Do It Again 3:40
3. She Wants Me 4:04
4. Whatcha Do 3:47
5. Below Zero 4:09
6. Cant Stop 3:39
7. Remain Silent 3:48
8. Makin Luv 4:27
9. State Of Emergency 3:43
10. Back To The Future 3:50
11. Love MD 4:06
12. Away 4:45
13. Rule The World 4:14
14. Bonus Track 1:31
15. Bonus Track 1:36
16. Bonus Track 1:33

I’m diggin the album cover. Nokio’s hair style is pretty dope and out there. Jazz seems to have slimmed down since the recording of the show. Sisqo looks more like a man with some facial hair and the hat on and Tao well… he still looks like they’re old manager. lol As for the album I seriously had high hopes for it with all the dope tracks they’ve hit us with but unfortunately the album is boo boo yall. Horrible production. Not a solid single for the radio which is probably why none of us have heard one. No quality ballad. Bad quality and lyrics. And they had the nerve to remake “Rule the World” and rap on it after Dwele murdered that remix! And on top of all this auto tune is very evident through out the album and T Pain isn’t a feature yall! The bonus tracks shouldn’t even be on there. #14 is some random “carni rock track” #15 is a rock remix of “How Deep” Jazz’s vocals are the highlight of this whole album. My suggestion to him is work on a quality solo album cause there’s a big spot open for that Big Teddy Bear tpye of singer with a strong voice right now. With the lack of promo for this album and whats on it I doubt it is successful at all.

Here’s a few of the singles and one that I thought was decent…

Fresh from the Fridge: Robin Thicke- My Life (single)

If your wondering why there’s a “Despicable Me” picture here it’s because they’re soundtrack actually has this Robin Thicke single on it. lol I was shocked when I heard the new’s too but apparently Pharrel is credited as a music producer and co-creator of the official music score for the upcoming animated Summer film which was another shocker to me. lol

Though it’s hard to try and find the relationship between this track and the movie without seeing the it, it’s a hot track none the less. With a dope beat produced by The Neptune’s of course and a very feel good vibe too it with a nice beat switch through out the song this is def a track to download and add to you Robin Thicke collection. For those that want some more info on the movie here’s the trailer…

DJ Jazzy Jeff/ Michael Jackson- He’s The King, I’m The DJ (Mixtape)

(A taste of the Mixtape)

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHNL-4B4aac

In celebration of the life of Michael Jackson and the year anniversary of his passing I thought I’d show my love by blessing all of my Soulified fam with this masterpiece of a mixtape that the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff mixed and when I say a masterpiece I mean just that!

This album has the perfect formula for a mixtape…No annoying ass DJ shouting out his name, click, and baby mama’s every 5 seconds over the track with the annoying echo effect, the scratching is limited and sounds great, the mixing is flawless, the singles are on point, the artist is on point, with very little sampling to the original tracks. And as you can see by the 49 single track list below Jazz doesn’t sale you short with the MJ hits. You get EVERY Michael Jackson in this one from when he was the tender age of 8 performing with The Jackson 5, his dark, solo, afro years, the light skinned “Jerry Curl” MJ, up to the white version he all left us as. There’s singles on this album that I never even heard of that my mom had to school me on when she over heard me listening to the album and immediately requested I burn her a copy for work. lol Your also going to hear a few familiar sample’s taken by today’s artist like LL Cool J and Ghostface Killer just to name a few.

All around this mixtape is a must have to anyone’s collection and hard to believe it’s “mixtape” and free at that. Just press play, leave that skip button dusty, and enjoy a legend introduce another legends entire life in the form of music.

Fonzworth Bently feat Anthony Hamilton- Greener (video)

Here’s the new single/ video from Fonzworth Bently featuring one of my favorite soul artist Anthony Hamilton. At first glance of the title and feature I was expecting this song and video to be super dope as was his first video Everybody featuring Andre 3000, Kanye West, and Sa Ra…

“Everybody”

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4TNZSFPtaw

It saddens me to say this but this single and video is straight garbage. From the location of the video, the wardrobe, production, and hook everything is just horrible. Bently to me has always been a trendsetting cat that has his own style, swag, and persona but in this video it feels like he’s trying way to hard and even posing. Right when I saw the windmills I immediately knew where this video was filmed which is the Cabazon area right off the 10 free on the outskirts of Palm Springs. That’s my hood yall and I can tell you from living there damn there all my life that there is hardly anything GREEN out there and  it gets about 115 degree’s e and dude is straight dancing and rapping in a leather hoody, a velvet jacket with a bow tie, and I don’t even know what that red thing is he rockin. lol This is probably the main reason Anthony Hamilton passed on being in the video. Brotha’s got some damn sense the video doesn’t make any of that.

Ok Bently your out in the desert by the windmill’s wearing clothes that are going to give you a damn heat stroke with no story line and no destination with a few models in courture randomly placed behind you in heels walking in the sand. I swear if I didn’t see this video featured on BET’s 106 and Park I would of thought this was a Dave Chappelle or Saturday Night Live spoof with as cheap and funny it is. lol

El Debarge + BET Awards= One Hell of a Performance

For those that missed the BET Awards I had to hot yall with the El Debarge surprise performance! Dude killed it! I swear I was immediately taken back to one of my favorite movie’s “The Last Dragon” starring Bruce Lee Roy and Show Nuff watching this great performance. What’s funny is right as the light come on and he starts to sing you feel the crowd askin, “Who the hell is this?” Then you slowly start hearing the cheers and applause as they’re being recognized who it was. I swear dude hasn’t aged a bit! And his hair cut was clean as hell. He definitely used a full bottle of Pink Oil Moisturizer that night! hahaha  Enjoy yall…

Robin Thicke raps now?! Wtf?

Yes you heard it right yall! Mr. Panty Droppin Super Soulful Robin Thicke rapping! You got to hear it to believe it lol. It’s honestly not even rapping to me because he’s on that Juvenille type crap where he say’s “In the Phantom” after every damn sentence with no actual rhyming what so ever. “No hoe’s in the Phantom, So Ho in the Phantom.” lmao! I can’t even be mad at him for trying something new but rapping shouldn’t have been it and The Game needs the s$%t slapped out of him for even letting Robin have the 3rd verse to rap on at 2:22 on the track if you want to speed past The Game’s mediocre lyrics.

This track actually sounds decent as far as the beat which I hear is not even by Dr. Dre but by some cat named DJ Toomp instead. And the singing/ hook isn’t bad by Robin Thicke either. What kills me is that the whole song is about a luxury car that all ready has a million and one song’s written about it prior by a bunch of rapper’s that can’t even afford it. This is one reason on top of many others why I don’t listen to majority of the rap crap being put out right now.
