We Plug Good Music Presents “A Prelude to the Future” Mixtape

The good people at We Plug GOOD Music, have complied together a strong collection of unsigned, and maybe even unknown to you, Soul, Hip-Hop and Spoken Word artists.   The collection is called “A Prelude to the Future“.   Based on what I have heard so far, you will see a number of these artists on Soulified in the future.  Here is the introduction from We Plug Good Music.

“‘We Plug GOOD Music’ has established an online presence successfully plugging the emerging music that commercial radio doesn’t play, Aiming to push the true artform of music and NOT necessarily what the industry calls ‘good’ & in their consistent, continuous bid & effort to keep plugging the best of NEW & EMERGING Performing Artistes, they’ve come together with 20 of the most promising emerging artists to create ‘The Future is NOW’ project beginning with this ‘A Prelude to the Future’ mixtape”

You can download the mixtape here or from Soulified. [Download not found]  Enjoy.

Fresh from the Fridge: The Floacist feat Musiq- Forever/ Spoken Soul Vol 1 (single / mixtape)

She’s baaaaald. Oppps! I mean baaaaaack. lol Natalie “The Floacist” Stewart has a new single out feat one of my favorite singer of all time Musiq that will be off her highly anticipated debut album entitled “Floetic Soul.”

Floacist spoke a little bit about the album saying “My approach to the manifestation of Floetic Soul, has simply been to get out of the way and go beyond my comfort zone, making sure to challenge any limitations that I may have placed on myself over time” She actually record 16 songs in 12 days! Girls a beast in the studio! She plans to show off her many talents on the album as a composer, singer, poet, lyricist, and producer. Expect some pretty dope features as well in Musiq Soulchild, Raheem DeVaughn, rapper MC Lyte, singer Lalah Hathaway and producers JR Hutson (Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild).

I have no idea when her album is set to drop because she doesn’t even know as it’s no where on her personal pages or site. I do know how ever that it’ll probably drop before Marsha’s being that The Floacist isn’t signed with Dr. Dre and wack ass Aftermath that’s known for shelving/ sleeping on all they’re artist. Dude’s damn there worst then Puffy with his label. lol I’ll def keep all yall posted though as soon as I find out more detailage. Till then enjoy the single as well as a little album she put out with spoken word.

Fresh from the Fridge: Jay-Z vs Coldplay- Viva La Hova (mixtape)

What’s up Soulifiedians?! It’s ya boy Black Milk aka Negro Leche and I’m bringing you another heater of a mixtape like the past few except this time I’m bringing one hell of a “Mash Up” album!

For those that are big Jay-z fans it’s been a hot sec since he’s gone up against an alternative band. November 30, 2004 to be exact when him and Linkin Park battled it out on they’re super dope album Collision Course which I still bump to this day before I compete in my karate tournament’s. This particular one is considered a “mixtape”.  It sounds like an album that both Jay Z and Coldplay did in the studio, with J spitting and Coldplay melodies.  All over crazy production from some of the dopest producers in the game like 9th Wonder. This is a must have for any Jay Z fan and it just might open you up to Coldplay and they’re genre of music as well.

Lil Wayne- I’m Not A Human Being EP (album preview)

Being locked up in jail hasn’t slowed Lil Wayne down at all! Dude has released just as many music videos, freestyles and guest features during his stay at Ryker’s Island then he ever has. Wayne’s manager compiled I’m Not a Human Being, an EP of all new material set to be released for download on Wayne’s birthday (Sep 27th). The album is pretty much being put out as an appetizer for fan’s till the main course in Tha Carter 4, Wayne’s next studio album which will be released the day he gets out.

The album is all around dope even if the lyrics are old prior to Weezy getting locked up. The production is nice as well as the features. Def pick this one up yall. Also expect a physical release to follow the downloadable version October 12th.

Wayne managed to have a video made of “Single” before he got locked away which is pretty dope and just a majority of raw recordings put together.

Fresh from the Fridge: Diggy Simmons- Airborne (mixtape/ video)

Yes you read and saw it right! Rev Runs little son Diggy is now rapping and has his own mixtape out and brace yourself for this one… IT IS FIYAH!!!!

When I first heard little Diggy (now 15 years of age by the way) was rapping and had a mixtape out the first thing that came to mind is it’s probably wack as all hell like his brother Jojo’s material with his group Team Black out and more then likley is was kiddy crap that was ghost written by a hired rapper from his pops or Uncle Russel. I’m not one to not have a closed mind and not give something a try so I did and boy let me tell you all the above that came to mind went right out the window after listening to the first track where he does spoken word and I was immediately hooked to hear what else he would come with behind that and on every track he spits versatile bars. Diggy is def for real yall! What really confirmed the realness is this interview he did with Good Fellas Radio. Visually he’s def grown from last seeing him on “Runs House” and on top of that his vocabulary and what he had to say in this interview pretty much confirmed that he more then likely doesn’t have a ghost writer and Atlantic wouldn’t have signed him.

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06RaqlknoMQ

Here’s one of the 2 freestyles Dig did to Nas Made You Look that caught the attention of labels where he eventually choose Atlantic…

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcM6p7pT4-o

What makes this a great mixtape for me is the fact that it doesn’t sound like a mixtape at all. Great production my fairly unknown producers. No Dj’s fuckin up the tracks. It has a great theme through out the whole album. Diggy’s versatility and content is nice. Nice features. And the tracks are just all around nice and all this is coming from a 15 year old! For all that I can’t help but give this album the score I did below. #2 is my shit! Even the Chris Brown feature where Chris sings and spits is dope. Download it and see what I’m talking about and let me know what you think here and be on the look out for Dig in the very near future. Shout out to my ninja James P. Morgan!

Green Tea & Uncle Shecky Present The Dosage 2.5: The Crazy Eights Remix EP

Green Tea has released a new collaboration effort with Applejac. The new project is “Green Tea & Uncle Shecky Present The Dosage 2.5: The Crazy Eights Remix EP“.  If you’re a reader of Soulified and don’t know who Green Tea is, then you need a quick refresher course.  Our first spotlight was on her previous two albums “Have A Cup Of green Tea Dosage 1: Shades Of Green“, released in 2005, and “Dosage II: Choices” which was released in 2008.  We then covered her awesome “Beautiful Weirdo” Mixtape.  Each release was better than the last and really showcased her talent.

This latest project is with the talented Applejac aka Uncle Shecky. They took Green Tea’s 2nd album “Dosage: II” and used that as the base, and built from there.  They brought new life into those songs, not that they needed it, but made them fresh and giving you a reason them to put them back in rotation.  Check out the EP, and support a pair of talented independent artists.

Drake and Nicki Minaj Tie The Knot?! (news/mixtape)

Yes you heard it right! Drake and Nicki Minaj tie the knot!!!! I mean are yall really that shocked? I mean Drake did say he’d “Fucking do it” in his new single “Miss Me” and I quote…

I love Nicki Minaj
I told her I’d admit it
I hope one day we get married just to say we fuckin’ did it
And girl, I’m fuckin’ serious
If you wit it then I’m wit it
‘Cause yo verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted, ugh

“Miss Me” (quote is at 2:07)

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRLSQDCkcaA

The big announcement came via both the stars Twitter accounts with Nicki asking Drake Friday afternoon (August 27)….

The tweets even caught the attention of down south rapper Slim Thug as he tweeted ” F*ckk I lost anotha @nickiminaj” Ok  now that I’ve got some of you with your mouth’s dropped and shocked with all thee above I have to break some more official news to you. When reps for both Drake and Nicki Minaj were asked if the news of the marriage was true they confirmed that rappers did not really tie the knot, though both tweeted that they did earlier that day. So whats up with all the twying? (twitter+lying= twying) lol If you ask me I think it’s one hell of an ingenious marketing/ publicity stunt with Drake just dropping the “Miss Me” single. Can you imagine how many people are looking up this single right now? Or how many people are adding both they’re twitters and looking they’re picture’s up? Shout out to Nicki Minaj’s booty by the way. lol

With the short lived celebration of the fake marriage thought I’d hit yall with a joint mixtape by both the rappers.  Expect Nicki Minaj to  release her long-awaited debut album, Pink Friday, on November 23.

Fresh from the Fridge: J. Cole- The Blow Up (mixtape/video)

Whats up Soulified Nation?! Jay-z’s protege and first signed artist to his label Roc Nation is finally above ground in the mainstream limelight with his two singles “Lights Please”  and his most recent single “Who Dat.” So I’m hitting yall with some new J. Cole heat to get you by till his album “Cole World” drops October 26th of this year. Expect production from Kanye West, No I.D., and Pharrell just to name a few.

I’ve been a J.Cole fan ever since he dropped his first mixtape “The Come Up” in 07 and his second “The Warm Up” in 09 which were both solid mixtapes that felt like album’s. The Blow Up, though not an official mixtape made by J. Cole is solid like his past two with great production, lyrics, new material off the upcoming album and unheard past tracks. And one of the most important things to me in a mixtape…no annoying ass DJ’s f’ing up the mixtape with shout outs and plugs. YES! Let’s just hope that his mixtapes aren’t better then his actual album like another certain light skinned mixed rapper who’s name rhymes with Blake. lol

Also check out these 2 dope music videos by director BB Gun. Very simple concept but all around dope the way the camera stays with one continuous shot with all sort’s of ish happening as J walks and spits.

Fresh from the Fridge: Estelle- #ialmostmadeamixtape (mixtape)

No your eye’s aren’t deceiving you. This is actually a mixtape made by Grammy award winning UK singer Estelle. With a cool Twitter inspired title Estelle hit’s you with a little bit of everything on this one from unreleased freestyles, remixes, and of course some new material that will more then likely be featured on her 3rd studio album“All of Me.” Throughout the album Estelle showcases her known vocalage and some what unknown rap skills which are actually very decent. She defiantly get’s her point across that she can bring much more to the table then her hit single “American Boy,” which is what her album title album “All of Me” revolves around that pretty much going to give every aspect of her talent to her fan not just what she’s known for.

Zo! To Release a Sunstorm Upon Us

If you are like me, then you know that July is a hot month in the music scene. Coming up on the horizon is a project from a producer who has been putting it down on the soul scene for years. On July 27th the new project from Zo! “Sunstorm” will hit the shelves.

If you are lost to whom Zo! is you must have been hiding under a rock. From Zo! and Tigallo Love the 80’s to the Grammy nominated “Leave it All Behind” from Foreign Exchange. Zo! has been part of some of the best soul music released over the last few years.

“Sunstorm” will feature an amazing line up from Yahzarah, Phonte from Foreign Exchange, Eric Roberson, Jesse Boykins III, and Sy Smith. Sy is featured on the first single “Greatest Weapon of All Time”.  It is a nice laid back up-tempo jam to get the party started.

Just based off of the 2 singles released, “This Could Be the Night” being the other, “Sunstorm” is shaping up to be an instant classic. If you can’t wait for something from Zo!, download two of his FREE projects if you have not already, [Download not found] and [Download not found].
