Geena’s LoveZone Presents: Episode 32: The Legendary Lionel Richie

Geena over at the Lovezone has did it again.  This week she turns her mixing/compilation talents to Lionel Richie’s great body of work.  Today June 20th is also Lionel’s birthday.  So what a better time to do a tribute.  Check it out, and enjoy. My favorite for today is “Easy”.  Can’t get any more fitting than that.

“Today Lionel Richie turns 61 years old, and is still going strong.  Admittedly, his later albums didn’t reach the same acclaim as his earlier work in the 1980s, but he’s a solid performer and a staple on most Adult Contempory/R&B radio station playlists. In honour of the man who got us Dancing On The Ceiling and showed how to give Endless Love, I’ve put together a mix of my favourite Richie tracks, from his solo and Commodore days.”

Geena’s LoveZone Presents: Episode 29: Janet (Miss Jackson If You’re Nasty)

Geena has dropped another episodic gem for the world.  This time she focuses her ear for great music on Janet Jackson.  She reminds of us of some Ms Jackson classics like Rhythm Nation, Miss You Much, Nasty, Let’s Wait Awhile, and many others.  You can get the full list of songs, download mixtape and enjoy the deepness of The LoveZone.  No poetic magic for this episode, but there is plenty to enjoy on her site.

Catch Res’s Interview on Eavesdrop Radio

Res has a new interview on the podcast from Eavesdrop Radio.  It’s actually a very relaxed and informative interview.  It gave me a better understanding of Res’s background and thought process.  You can stream or download it here.

Also, don’t forget that Res has a show in Philly next week.  It’s April 28th @ 9:00PM. It’s being held at Johnny Brenda’s. For $10 you can’t beat that. Show her some love.

Free Music: Soulsorts Podcast

Soulsorts

Website/MySpace/Blog/iTunes

In my vigilant search for good FREE music, I have came upon Soulsorts.  It’s run by Robbie Williams in the UK, and it’s based of his monthly Radio show.  The show airs the last Sunday of very month from 6pm to 8pm (UK time) on Solar Radio, whose tagline is “A unique radio station promoting and supporting New and Classic Soul plus related genres such as Soulful Garage, Gospel and Jazz Fusion.”  How can you not like that?    Anyway, Robbie puts out a monthly podcast that is loaded with Soul.

Free Music: Soul Podcasts

Not many people are really aware of the amount of free music that is released regularly. This helps you find new artists, that you may not have found out otherwise and expand the type of music you have in your rotation. The first podcast is from a site that is one of my favorites. It’s Soul Unsigned, which showcases unsigned Soul artists of great talent.  Their podcast is new, and has three  podcasts available.  They are broadcasts from radio stations that they have weekly spots.

The second podcast is from Astrall22. It’s called the Modern Soul Podcast.  You may remember the name from the album “Imperial Progressive Soul Collection Volume One” that he produced and we reviewed a few weeks ago.  So, far it has nine podcasts for you to get your Soul fix.  The above photo is a from the artist ALison Crockett, who was spotlighted on of the podcasts.

Essence Grooves

The third Soul podcast is Essence Grooves.  She has been putting our quality podcasts since mid 2008.  So, you have tons of music to fill your mp3 player.  These podcasts are more well known artists, but the quality is still there.  Every Thursday Sels whips up some musical goodness for you.
