Here are some of the albums that I am really looking forward this spring and summer. Which ones are you looking forward to being released?
Choklate – To Whom It May Concern: May 9th, 2009. She is one of my favorite artist from 2007. I was just entranced by her voice. I was very happy when she announced that she had a new album coming May 9th, 2009.
Maxwell – BlackSummersNight: July 7th, 2009. Maxwell is saying its the first in a trilogy of albums to be released. I don’t know how much time will be between the three albums, but let’s hope it’s not as long as hit last album, and this one. Yesterday he posted a a song from the new album, Prettywings. I can’t find the link, but I’m glad i snagged it before it was gone. Click here to get it.
Yesterday at 4:20pm, Jill Scott and John Roberts were blessed with the arrival of Jett Hamilton Roberts. A baby boy weighing 7lbs, 8ozs. This is Jill Scott’s first child who is 36. Join me in congratulating them on this happiness.
Just found out about this artist, Ayah. Today she released her debut album “4:15”. From the music that I have heard, I would say it’s like an upbeat smoothness. Reminds me a little of Joy Denalane. Her album is available on her site today on CD. It will be released on iTunes on June 9th of this year. While I was getting to know more about Ayah, I found that she released a mixtape called “Problem Woman Mixtape”. You can go to her MySpace page and download the mixtape, and that should hold you till your album arrives. I know it’s going to kill me to wait for this CD in the mail. My last thing I ordered from the UK took two months to get here. Oh, I’ve attached two of her videos below, Believe and Pusha Man. Also, she also has a 4:15 Album Release Celebration. Details are below. I wish I could attend.

You have to ask yourself a question. Are you a true Prince fan that you think you are? This is the test right here. Prince has released The Prince Opus. It’s a 280 page book that is 13″ x 20″, that weighs 38lbs. It’s leather hand bound, with it’s own velvet case. To add to the decadence, each page is printed in a four color process, plus metallic gold on silk. It’s a photo book of Prince’s 21 Nights tour, and also includes a numbered and limited edition Apple iPod 2nd Gen Touch. The purple iPod Touch has 40 minute movie from that same tour, and bonus tracks. There will only be 950 of these available. The price for this item? Oh, only $2,100 USD. If you have some extra money around, just go ahead and get me one too. Continue reading “For only 951 Prince fans, the Prince Opus” »
You know how you try some new food dish, and wonder how you have lived without it? That is Natalie Gardiner. Before last month, I had never heard of her or her two albums. Sad, I know. Well… now that I know about her, everything is right in the world. Normally when I find a new (to me) artist, I liten to the most recent album, and work backwards. That’s one of the benefits of finding unknown artists. Natalie’s most recent album is California, which has a Sade-esque feel to it, but a little more subdued vibe to it. It flows along, with not a single bump, and it’s a wonderful ride. her debut self titled album, Natalie Gardiner has more diversity in the styles displayed on the album. It still has a subdued tone to it. My favorite song on California, is “Slowly Softly”, which the video is below. On her debut album Natalie Gardiner, it’s “Now I got Worry”.

Spent some time up late surfing, and came across this great collection of music at Soul Unsigned. It’s a website that has Soul artists that have not signed with any record labels, yet. Based on their talent and the Soul Unsigned Vol. 1, Soul Unsigned EP 001, and Soul Unsigned EP 002 they won’t be unsigned for long. I was really surprised by the over all cohesiveness of the this collection of music. They first released EP 001, then EP 002, and most recently Soul Unsigned Vol. 1. In late April they will be releasing Soul Unsigned Vol. 2.

I finally got video working on the site after a few hours. Anyway, here is the video of Prince and his band performing “Never Gonna Age”, from the album MPLSound. Prince is also performing tonight (Thursday), and also tomorrow night (Friday). Both performances are on the Jay Leno Show. THis video isn’t from YouTube, so it should be up for awhile. Cassandra Wilson has an album being released April 7, 2009. It’s titled “Closer to You: The Pop Side“. It’s a compilation of her pop song covers over the years. It’s being released by Blue Note, who she has been with since 1993. This collection of covers surely shows the ability for her and her voice to change and adapt. Some of the songs include, “Weight” (Country), “Time After Time” (by Cyndi Lauper), and “Tupelo Honey” (by Van Morrison). There aren’t any samples available right now, but it will be in about a week.
1. Love Is Blindness (U2)
2. Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper)
3. Fragile (Sting)
4. Closer To You (Jakob Dylan)
5. Last Train To Clarksville (Monkees)
6. The Weight (The Band)
7. Tupelo Honey (Van Morrison)
8. Harvest Moon (Neil Young)
9. I Can’t Stand The Rain (Tina Turner)
10. Lay Lady Lay (Bob Dylan)
11. Wichita Lineman (Glen Campbell)
Good evening. Just a quick reminder, of Prince related events, that lead up to his March 29th three album set release. Below are all the details. Catch one of the performances, if you can. If you can’t, set your Tivos/DVRs to capture the excitement.

I think that everyone has heard of Twitter at this point. Also they have heard of the great surge in of people using it in recent months. If you’re a normal person, after you sign up, you wonder what’s next. Well…. for the music lover I have complied a list of Soul music artists, on Twitter that will give you a jump start. To be able to have this much access or just this much detail of a artist’s thoughts is great. If you have found others, that I missed, please let me know, and I’ll update the post.
I was doing my morning surfing, and came across a heavenly voice that was very surprising. The voice was from Aimee Bryant and the reason it was surprising is that I had not heard of her till today. Her album Becoming was released on Jan 15th, 2008. That’s a whole year and change, and I just heard about it. Now I’m a great fan of Soul, Neo/Nu Soul music, and I check daily for new music to add to my collection. There are a lot of potential fans out there, that just aren’t getting the word on the great music. Also, the huge number of very talented artists is very inspiring. Right now there is a kind of slow period of major Soul/Neo/Nu Soul releases, but this is a great time to go back and find those unknown gems.
Anyway, back to the voice of Aimee Bryant. It’s a very powerful, but full of range. It’s a voice that grasps you upon first listening to it. With not over complex arrangements, her voice has the room it needs to take you upon a journey. It speaks to you in a way, that a only Gospel choir singing on the streets of NYC. It’s not something that you expect, but it captures you to fully understand what they are trying to convey. Sample some of her tracks below, and I think that you will feel the same that I did.
Ok, I’ve been working on this revised recipe for a while now. The famous Secret Ingredient Cheesecake recipe has a sinfully rich taste, and velvet smooth texture. It also has a ton of carbs, since it has a full cup of sugar. Well…. that won’t cut it in 2009. With both of us, doing the low carb thing, I had to revise it, and got it down to 15 grams of carbs per slice (1/8 of the 9″ pie pan). Going low carb, it limits your choices for any satisfaction for your sweet tooth. I’ve tried to make this previously, with normal Splenda. It just didn’t work. Normal Splenda just doesn’t bind with the other ingredients like normal sugar. In comes their new Sugar Blend. It was specially formulated for baking, and it solves that binding problem. I was actually shocked at the taste, compared to the Full O’ Fat version. Try out this recipe out, and let me know how it works for you.
2 PKG 8oz Philly cheese regular
1/2 cup of Splenda Sugar Blend
1 to 2 tblsp of pure Vanilla to taste (don’t use Jamaican vanilla. you can use imitation vanilla, but I use pure Mexican or American vanilla)
This will make 1 9″ pie pan or 12 mini pie pans
1. Mix all with a blender at room temp, until mixture is very smooth with no lumps. Mix in eggs, sugar and Philly cream cheese at the same time. Add vanilla last.
2. Pour into desired graham cracker pie pan
3. Pre heat oven to 400. Then cook for 30 mins, or until top is lightly gold brown.
4. After done let cool, for about 30 mins
5. Add any toppings as needed. Normally the middle of the pie sinks, and in this impression is where I add the toppings. The ugliest looking cheesecake is the one that gets the topping to cover it up.
