Fresh From the Fridge: Chris Brown- Deuces remix (single/ video/ spoof video)

I don’t know about yall but these days you can’t really go anywhere without hearing this Chris Brown single. And though I haven’t really been a fan of Chris Brown ever since he slapped the shit outta Rhianna and his “Gimme That” day’s I gotta admit I’m feelin this single and even Tyga and the “other dude’s” verse. lol

I guess I wasn’t the only one feeling this single because outta the blue comes the remix full of a ton of big name MC’s by the names of Drake, Kanye West, T.I., Faboulous, and Andre 3000. Though I could have done without T.I. and Fabolous the remix is fire none the less and Drake totally murder’s it coming out the blocks first.

Chris Brown- Deuces

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RUSRxTpI80&ob=av3e

So the other day I was choping it up with my homegirl/ graphic girl Gigi and she’s ask me if I saw the Affion Crockett spoof he did on the Deuces song and video. I hadn’t so took a little trip to youtube and checked it out and busted out laughing! I can even listen to the original right anymore without thinking about Affions hook “Douche It!” LMAO! Be warned yall that his lyrics in the video are pretty ummmmm graphic and the title should say it all. And to any of the females that don’t like the lyric’s you more then likely prolly need to…. “Douche It!” lol : o )~

Affion Crockett- Deuces “Douche It” (spoof video)

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5622HSZuCws

And just when I thought Affion couldn’t be a bigger fool on the spoof he goes ahead and does the full remix impersonating every feature just as they spit on the song but with his lyrics and sounds just like them! Talk about some flippin talent! Expect the Affion Crockett show to come out in February of next year on the Fox network yall and suscribe to his youtube channel cause dude’s got some super funny stuff on it.

Bruno Mars- Doo Wop and Hooligans (album review/ online listening party by Dj Smoke1)

I’ve had my hands on Bruno’s new album for a hot sec and thought I’d have our very own Dj Smoke1 bless you all with an early listen of the album before it drops this Tuesday October 5th, 2010.

For those expecting the Bruno Mars that you’ve heard on the 2 dope feature’s he blessed on the vocal/ production tip for B.O.B and Travie McCoy I wanna let you know right now none of that is really on this album. Bruno is definitely showcasing the real him on this album as well as his versatility through all kinds of different genre’s of music like the obvious doo-wop, r&b, pop, reggae, soul, and some island acoustic like you’ve heard on Travis McCoy’s “Billionaire” song.

I’ll be honest, when I first listened to this album I wasn’t really feeling it because again I was expecting the catchy hook, up tempo production I heard on the feature’s he had done prior. After a few more listen’s of the album and Smoke1’s mix some more the album started to grow on me. It’s definitely something a little different then what your typically use to hearing and I dig that Bruno stayed true to himself and went that route. I wish the album would have had more the 12 tracks because again I can’t stand when an artist doesn’t feel that bad boy all the way up and give fans they’re monies worth but you can expect a different track out of each of the 12 that sound nothing the same. I recommend this album to all the true Bruno Mars fans and for those that want something different to listen to with some substance and versatility cause it’s worth the $9.99. For more information on Bruno, the album, the music video and some exclusive download’s from the album check out my past preview post.

Faith Evans – Something About Faith (review/online listening party by DJ Smoke1)

Faith Evans is bizzack! And I gotta say…”It’s about damn time!” Almost 6 year’s have gone by since she put out an album.  For all those that are pissed about that blame Puffy’s sorry ass, for never keeping his artist happy and hot. Man, I’d hate to be signed to Bad Boy. lol

Something About Faith will be her 6th studio album and very independent release since peacing out from Bad Boy and her short lived engagement with Capitol Records.  Though I’m not feeling the album artwork with that funky ass outfit and little ass hat.  Faith is one of the most beautiful females ever and those black and white back pictures aren’t doing her any justice. I can say, that I’m feeling the track list behind the album work though. 17 tracks to be exact! Thank you Faith for actually filling up the whole album and thinking about the fan’s and they’re monies worth. My home girl Wyldeflowher was just chopping it up about artists short changing the fans with short ass 10 track albums, when a CD can store way more media. The truth behind that is that a lot of artist are only putting the amount of tracks on that they’re album that they’re getting paid for.  In my mind that’s stupid, because touring is where the money is and if your fans aren’t happy with a 10 track album your touring is gonna be boo boo.

Anywaaaaays, I summoned our official Dj Smoke1 to do what he does, and mix up the whole album for your listening pleasures right here right now before the album drops this Tuesday October 5th, 2010 aka my sister’s birthday! Whoop whoop! Though I’m not a huge fan of Faith’s music I can say that this is a really good solid album. You can definitely tell Faith went all out on this one to make it up to her true fans for being gone so long.  By again giving you a full album of tracks that are all versatile, great content, nice production, and some surprising yet dope feature’s like Snoop Dog, Raekwon, Redman, Lil Mo, and Kelly Price just to name the shockers. lol

Love the video to her first single “Gone All Ready.” It’s just her, the piano man, and some mimes and works well. I love how the mimes express the feeling of the words Faith is singing through theyre body language. And its a very deep song for those that listen to the content.

Fresh from the Fridge: Devi Dev and Terrace Martin- Here, My Dear (mixtape EP)

Man do I have one hell of a treat for yall and it come’s in the form of this EP by my fellow gorgeous  Halfrican Devi Dev and West Coast super producer/ rapper Terrace Martin titled “Here, My Dear.”

Terrace stated the EP is inspired by Marvin Gaye’s critically acclaimed 1978 album of the same name, “Here, My Dear” which showcases the raw & varying emotions of love in a Hip Hop form, On this project Terrace blends his live instrumentation and production with new Hip Hop elements with some dope feature’s like Snoop Dog, Kurupt, Charlie Wilson, Wiz Khalifa, and U-N-I- just to name a few. I’ve had this album on repeat since I got it and can safely say it’s a breath of fresh air as well as a masterpiece. Every track on the album is dope and gives you a little bit of everything. Great production, lyrics, content, vocals, comedy, and structure. Even the interludes on the album are nice where they showcase Devi Dev keeping it very real as her and Terrace chop it up about various love/ relationship related questions over samples of Marvin Gaye’s original version of this up to date album. I can relate to everything they chop it up about as I’m sure you all will like “turkey burgers and good sex.” hahaha

And just when you think the album is dope you have the 3 in 1 video that showcase’s 2 of the best songs off the album in a short film format that tells Terrace’s situation with serious and funny moment’s starting from the end and rewinding all the way to the beginning like one of my favorite movies “Memento.” Big ups to Aplusfilmz for putting it all together.

Dwele Visits South Africa (video/single)

Came across a dope video of Dwele’s trip to the mother land and wanted to share it all with you.

For those that aren’t subscribers to Dwele’s youtube channel all the video’s he makes are called A.D.B.P. (another Dwele bootleg production) and within his video’s he has a certain ones called the I.P.C. (i phone chronicle) and this is basically where he records video on his I Phone of where he’s at or doing in a particular place. In this case it’s South Africa. I really enjoyed watching this 14.55 min video cause he shows the people, places, and custom of South Africa from his point of view as well as some live performing of the show he did down there.

Enjoy the video yall and leave ya boy some love down below in the comment box. Also wanted to share one of my all time favorite Dwele cut’s ” Truth” off his Subject album that he performs live on this video where the crowd goes nuts. I swear this is one of the realest song’s ever sang right here!

Fresh from the Fridge: Jay-Z vs Coldplay- Viva La Hova (mixtape)

What’s up Soulifiedians?! It’s ya boy Black Milk aka Negro Leche and I’m bringing you another heater of a mixtape like the past few except this time I’m bringing one hell of a “Mash Up” album!

For those that are big Jay-z fans it’s been a hot sec since he’s gone up against an alternative band. November 30, 2004 to be exact when him and Linkin Park battled it out on they’re super dope album Collision Course which I still bump to this day before I compete in my karate tournament’s. This particular one is considered a “mixtape”.  It sounds like an album that both Jay Z and Coldplay did in the studio, with J spitting and Coldplay melodies.  All over crazy production from some of the dopest producers in the game like 9th Wonder. This is a must have for any Jay Z fan and it just might open you up to Coldplay and they’re genre of music as well.

Jeremih – All About You (album review/ video/ online listening party by DJ Smoke1)

Mr. Birthday Sex is back with his second album “All About You”.  Soulified now has an official DJ, by the name of DJ Smoke1 .  He will bless your ears with a dope mix of the full album for your listening pleasure, in our very first online listening party before the album drops September 28th, 2010.

Got a chance to listen to the album over the weekend and I can safely say that this one will be added to my ” freak um” list. lol This is a straight baby makin album right here, ya’ll.  In my case and most others out there a “practice making babies” album.  hahaha This was somewhat expected with his hit single “Birthday Sex” on his last album, but it’s a refreshing piece of work. None the less,  every track has a different feel and taste. You can tell Jeremih has def grown and matured as an artist on this one. You get the grown and sexy tracks and even a few good love ballads like Holding On and Love Don’t Change. Another breath of fresh of air on the album is the single “Broken Down”, where Jeremih hits us with a blues style track. It’s about a past bad situation, he was in and he showcase’s his true untouched vocals.

The lead single “I Like” was def a good choice because it’s one of my favorite tracks.  Luda murders it with his bars at the end.  The video is simple and has been done before (on a rented yacht with the homie and video vixen’s drinking bub) but it works for the song.  The eye candy picked totally makes me ignore the unoriginality. The back arch shot during Luda’s part in the jacuzzi OMG! LOL Can’t help but hate a little and wish I was there with the 2 to even the odds. lol Ok ok back to the album. Make sure yall cop it when it drops.  It’s worth the $9.99

Fresh from the Fridge: Ronald Isley feat Lauryn Hill- Close To You (single)

You know you got mad juice when you can get Lauryn Hill featured on a track these days and Mr. Bigs does just that with this classic cover of Burt Bacharach’s tender ballad “(They Long to Be) Close to You.” I’ve got this bad boy on repeat right now! Super hot take on the cover and one hell of a colab.

Expect to see this track on Ronald’s upcoming album Mr. I (due Nov. 30).

Donell Jones- Lyrics (album review/ sneak peek)

“Donell Jones has a new album?!” Those are the words that came to most of your minds when you saw this post right? Well it was for mine when I found out he had an album and I gotta say…It’s about damn time Donell! Only took you 4 years if you don’t count “The Lost Files” album in 2009 which was pretty much lost in music world. lol

So what’s Donell bringing on this album? “This album right here is, to me, the best so far,” says Jones. “I know a lot of artists say that, but I really feel that way. This is one you can play from beginning to end. I like to give a message in the music and I think that with this particular album, I really went into depth about certain situations we find ourselves in. I named it lyrics because from the very start of my career, that’s what I’ve tried to build on, writing strong lyrics and making sure that whatever I put out there, people can understand.” That’s some pretty big and confident talk considering his 1999 platinum selling album “Where I Wanna Be” is my all time favorite and in my mind a flawless album from start to finish. Hell my wedding song is on that album and I’m not even married yet. lol

Listening to the first two tracks right off the bat I can say he’s not off to a good start “rap singing” on the #1 The World Is Yours with way to much talking in the beginning of both tracks totally killing the it for me like a mixtape dj basically explaining how he’s back and the R&B needs him.  He even has his mama talking on #2 Your Place. Ewww. His first and probably only single off the album #3 Love Like This is a chill track with a decent video till Donell takes his hat and glasses off. lol Whoa! Donell got dome!!!! And I’ve seen prettier love interest in Walmart.

“Love Like This”

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zk1R8XrqaM&p=13DA3DEFA2450E49&playnext=1&index=32

The talking continues on track 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13! Just sing Donell! Your killing the songs. We don’t need introductions! Speaking of #10 You Can Burn Donell introduces one of his first artist signed to his “record label” Candy Man by the name of Breeze who’s a female singer that can’t sing worth a damn. *shakes head* The album as a whole is a big disappointment to me because I was really hoping Donell would back his words and bless us with an up to date “Where I Wanna Be” but it’s far from that. The production is boo boo especially the uptempo clubby ones. The content isn’t something I don’t wanna hear like strip clubs, tapping married women and sneaking out the Back Door, and ruining a girl life he dated that didnt want to be with him via Blackmailing her for money who’s getting married. Unnecessary auto tune (#5). There are no high notes at all! It’s pretty much soft spoken singing through out. You know an album is bad when Young Joc the best thing about it. Real spit.

John Legend and The Roots- Wake Up! (album review/preview)

When I first heard these 2 music titans were getting together and doing an album together I couldn’t believe it. Well myself and thousands of others are believers now cause it’s finally out and the album is a beast! If you thought the Jay-Z/ Linkin Park Collision Course album was nuts this album is a must by.

Soulful singer John Legend & the baddest band in all the land The Roots present Wake Up!, and if you think that this dream team of a combination looks good I can assure you it sounds even better! This album is packed with 12  songs pulled from the soulful music of the 60’s and 70’s all with a theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness all blessed by John’s voice and the Roots instrumentation/ lyrics. The album is highlighted with familiar tracks like “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway mixed with more obscure selections like Baby Huey and the Babysitters’ “Hard Times” which is my cut. Wake Up! also includes one original composition, John Legend’s “Shine,” which is featured in the documentary Waiting For Superman.

From the very start of the album this killer combo comes out of the gate’s full blast with a loud, soulful, live, hard hitting sound that you can’t help but get excited and bob your head too with “Hard Times.”  This track is probably one of my favorite because it’s the perfect combo of John’s high notes, The Roots instrumentation and Black Thought lyrics. I had to bless yall with a live in studio performance of it which gives you one hell of an idea as to how they all recorded this album which makes sense as to why it’s so live! I swear if you closed your eyes with the volume all the way up you’d swear John and the Roots were playing live right in front of you. It’s that live yall.

Fresh from the Fridge: Willow Smith- Whip My Hair (single/video interview)

I remember way back when Will and Jada got together and started making babies and saying to myself…”those are going to be some good looking super talented kids.” Look at them now. Jaydan’s (12 years old) starred in 3 big blockbuster movies (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and The Karate Kid. Now his little sister Willow (9 years old) is next up to bat who actually starred in some films herself (I Am LegendKit Kittredge: An American Girl and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa) but the films aren’t oddly enough isn’t what’s getting young Willow all the buzz these days…it’s her singing career!

When I first heard she had a song out I honestly didn’t take it serious at all. I mean come on! She’s 9 for God sake and signing. So I couldn’t even picture something like Lil Bow Wow did when he first came on to the scene with his ghost writers. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and took a listen to her new single “Whip My Hair” and I was very shocked. This shit bangs! The track has a dope beat, very catchy hook as simple as it is, and the little girl can sing! What really impressed me even more is the interview she did with Ryan Seacrest down below. She looks just like Jada! Talks and carries herself like Jada! It’s a trip. She’s like a mini me lol And very mature, down to earth, mature, and wholesome. Oh and did I mention Jay- Z singed her to his new label Roc Nation?! Shot out to Azaleah aka Puertozillian! lol

Fresh from the Fridge: Diggy Simmons- Airborne (mixtape/ video)

Yes you read and saw it right! Rev Runs little son Diggy is now rapping and has his own mixtape out and brace yourself for this one… IT IS FIYAH!!!!

When I first heard little Diggy (now 15 years of age by the way) was rapping and had a mixtape out the first thing that came to mind is it’s probably wack as all hell like his brother Jojo’s material with his group Team Black out and more then likley is was kiddy crap that was ghost written by a hired rapper from his pops or Uncle Russel. I’m not one to not have a closed mind and not give something a try so I did and boy let me tell you all the above that came to mind went right out the window after listening to the first track where he does spoken word and I was immediately hooked to hear what else he would come with behind that and on every track he spits versatile bars. Diggy is def for real yall! What really confirmed the realness is this interview he did with Good Fellas Radio. Visually he’s def grown from last seeing him on “Runs House” and on top of that his vocabulary and what he had to say in this interview pretty much confirmed that he more then likely doesn’t have a ghost writer and Atlantic wouldn’t have signed him.

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06RaqlknoMQ

Here’s one of the 2 freestyles Dig did to Nas Made You Look that caught the attention of labels where he eventually choose Atlantic…

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcM6p7pT4-o

What makes this a great mixtape for me is the fact that it doesn’t sound like a mixtape at all. Great production my fairly unknown producers. No Dj’s fuckin up the tracks. It has a great theme through out the whole album. Diggy’s versatility and content is nice. Nice features. And the tracks are just all around nice and all this is coming from a 15 year old! For all that I can’t help but give this album the score I did below. #2 is my shit! Even the Chris Brown feature where Chris sings and spits is dope. Download it and see what I’m talking about and let me know what you think here and be on the look out for Dig in the very near future. Shout out to my ninja James P. Morgan!

Bruno Mars: Doo-Wops and Hooligans (album preview/video)

The man behind 2 of the dopest singles of the year “Billionaire and Nothing On You” is finally ready to bless the world with his own singles in the highly anticipated album Doo-Wops and Hooligans coming out on my sisters birthday October 5th, 2010.

When speaking to MTV news on the story behind the album title Bruno explains… “I’m a big fan of doo-wop music. … That’s what you call your girl, your “doo-wop.” … On this album, I have records that women are going to relate to and men are going to relate to. So doo-wops are for the girls, and hooligans are for the guys.” So the big question is will Bruno’s album songs be equal to if not better then the 2 songs he produced and murdered the hooks on with B.o.B and Travie McCoys single? Cause in my mind and a ton of others he is those songs. And listening to both B.o.B and Travie McCoy’s albums those were the only 2 good songs on them. They prolly shoulda hired Bruno for the rest of they’re albums lol Looking over the track list I’m all ready not excited that he’s only going to have 10 tracks. I mean anything below 12 shouldn’t be allowed especially with all the songs artist record prior to go through and pick the best.  Listening to his first single “Just the Way You Are” I think Bruno has some kinda promise because its a dope single that would pull any female lyrically and vocally on demand. The video is ever doper.

Simple video with a super dope concept. Big ups to who ever came up with the idea to have the tape animated with the song lyrics. Damn it’s been a hot sec since I seen a yellow walkman. I know I’m not the only one who that one by Sony lol

Trey Songz- Passion, Pleasure, Pain (album review/ video)

Happy Monday Soulified! How was everyone’s weekend? Got the new Trey Songz album last Friday and have been bumping it all weekend.

I gotta admit the album is a lot better then I thought it was going to be. Trey has definitely matured as an artist because the whole album is very well rounded. And for my dude’s that are looking for a good “beating/ panty droppin” album this is the one! lol I know I’ll def be putting this album on next time I knock some boots. lol Big up’s to Trey for this one. I appreciate it family. hahaha The track list is a little different from the one I posted a few weeks ago in the album sneak peek where all of you can still download and listen to the 6 tracks off the album highlighted below by clicking. The album’s very similar to Dwele’s W.ants W.orld W.omen album in the sense that he broke the album into 3 separate part with the parts relating to the album title’s 3 words. Though Trey’s words aren’t in the right order in his track list as they are in the album title I’m not mad at him for trying and doing it the way he did because it makes the album that much more interesting. Make sure to buy the album tomorrow (Sep 14th) when it drops.

The video for the new single off the album “Can’t Be Friends” and I’m feeling this video big time. It’s a simple concept but it gets the point and lyrics across. More artist should focus on feeling and simplicity when doing video’s because all the crazy graphics and special effects and shit aren’t needed. The song is dope as well cause I feel every word he’s singing on a personal level as I’m sure a lot of you are as well. This cut defiantly leads me to believe that his album will truly be the most personal to date.
