Dwele Visits South Africa (video/single)

Came across a dope video of Dwele’s trip to the mother land and wanted to share it all with you.

For those that aren’t subscribers to Dwele’s youtube channel all the video’s he makes are called A.D.B.P. (another Dwele bootleg production) and within his video’s he has a certain ones called the I.P.C. (i phone chronicle) and this is basically where he records video on his I Phone of where he’s at or doing in a particular place. In this case it’s South Africa. I really enjoyed watching this 14.55 min video cause he shows the people, places, and custom of South Africa from his point of view as well as some live performing of the show he did down there.

Dwele-W.ants W.orld W.omen Album Review

I’m going to come out right and just that this album is a straight masterpiece yall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats super dope about this entire album is how it seamlessly feels like 3 albums in one the way he’s splits each title name (Wants, World, Women) with the interlude first, then the songs that represent that specific title just as his super dope commercial’s did to hype the album. And I guarantee yall wont be skipping over these interludes like know we all usually do because they’re straight up dope! W.ants (1-6) are all about just that…Dwele’s wants in which he hits us with a full dope list in the very first track I Wish. The shocker track of this whoooooooooole album is Dodgin Your Phone featuring David Banner which we all heard a snippet of in his W.ants commercial. It’s a shocker to me because it’s nothing like what I expected from a David Banner track and most of all… Dwele spits on the track! Yes Dwele raps and he does one hell of a f*^%king job at it yall! Had me hella impressed and it comes out of know where when the beat all of sudden switches Timbaland style. I was sitting here looking at the track list features again thinking it was one of the many Detroit rappers that he’s friends with but at the very end of the track Dwele confirms that it is him in his last bar with mucho swag. Mad props to Dwele on this!

W.orld (8-11) are all about the current political situations were dealing with these days. The tracks are very reminiscent of Marvin Gaye’s views with “Whats Going On” especially in How I Deal and My People. My people is probably the one I have on repeat the most on my I Pod touch and I find myself through out the day humming and scatting the melody just like Dwele himself. lol

W.omen (13-18) is self explanatory. Dwele slows it down for us and focus’s on the ladies. I Understand is probably my favorite out of that selection and was one of the song featured in his W.omen commercial. I Wanna featuring Dj Quick was another shocker too me. I’d never expect those two to make a track together or even know each other but it’s very well put together with that classic funky Dj Quick production he’s know for with some witty bar’s to go with it. With that said enjoy the party all weekend long and drink up as much Dwele as you’d like and make sure you support him by going out and buying his now!

Yes yes yall! Here’s a nice little appetizer to get us all by till  Dwele drop’s the real deal on the 29th of this month! On the first track Dwele starts out with a personal clip of an interview he did discussing how he got started and motivated to continue and the interview clips continue 3 more times throughout the mixtape and are all very interesting to hear. The mixtape contains 3 of the 16 tracks that are on the official album which are What’s Not to Love, How I DealYoutube version” and My People. Aside from the W.W.W. there’s an exclusive live version of Angel, an interpretation of English pop rock duo’s Fears For Tear’s hit single Everybody Wants To Rule the World, a few older exclusive’s that I’ve never even heard, and the dope tribute Dwele did for Michael Jackson where he performed a very memorable MJ track recording each instrument piece by piece with his sampler from start to finish. You have to see it to believe it! True talent right there!

Fresh from the Fridge: Dwele- I Wish

More Dwele heat for your ears and your feet! Today I’m hittin yall with another single off his new album coming out on the 29th of this month entitled “I Wish.”

“I Wish” is a smooth up beat track you can bob your head to and just vibe too. On this one Dwele is keeping it real yet simple with the wishes that he has whether it be personal or political.  One wish in particular that stood out and actually had me laughing little was… “I wish that the Golden Child had a sequel.” hahahahah Couldn’t agree with him more on that one! I loved that movie! Classic Eddie Murphy right there!!!!!!

Thee official track list! Featuring a full album of 18 tracks for our listening pleasure along with some really nice feature’s which Dwele isn’t to known for via his past album’s.

So far I’ve heard 3 of the 18 track’s. The first being  “Whats Not to Love” where you can listen in my prior post here. Track #2 “I Wish” that I’ll be showcasing fresh out the fridge later this week for you guy’s. And last but certainly not least track #8 “How I deal feat Slum Village which is by far my favorite track out of the 3 and probably out of the 18. Dwele actually made this single about 2 years ago during the Obama campaign which was his inspiration for the track. He made a super dope music video of the track because as he say’s “I was bored at home, shot a video, me and my tripod.” If this is the end result of his boredom then I hope he’s bored a whole lot more because I lost count on how many time’s I’ve watched this video due to how hot the track is as well as the all around dope simplicity of the video where he simply in his room singing to the camera on the edge of his bed with 2 of his clones playing the beat with an MPC and a keyboard. This video is nuts! You be the judge…

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZjpZAea-Cg

I guess he was feeling the track so much he decided to revamp it a little with the Slum Village feature where you can hear a taste of it in his “W.orld. Commercial” which I also posted in the link above. Let me know what track your looking forward to hearing and why from the list. And make sure to check the site on the daily for soul exclusive’s from myself and the rest of the Soulified crew.

Fresh from the Fridge: Kanye West featuring Dwele in “Power”

George Bush doesn’t like black people but Kanye West like’s Dwele as he feature’s him on his first single entitled “Power” from his highly anticipated RAP album “A Good Ass Job”…yes yall I said Raaaaap album! None of that auto tune singing crap this time around lol. Expect it’s release sometime around September.

Dwele insist that his contributions to Kanyes work are very minimal at best, despite their chemistry. “I got there [to the studio], and ‘Ye had an idea for what he wanted for the song,” Dwele told MTV News about “Power.” “So that’s all his creation. Pretty much all I did was my thing: I added harmonies and lent my instrument for the joint.”

Listening to this track it is very evident that Dwele’s contribution to the track is very minimal as he blesses the track at about 3:46 into the almost 5 minute track highlighting the bridge. Dwele sings: “I’m jumping out the window/ I’m letting everything go/ I’m letting everything go.” The track is super hot and bumps with a dope sample by British rock band King Crimson’s, but I would have loved to hear more Dwele on this one as I would have loved to hear more of him on they’re last colabo “Flashing Lights.”

Listen and download the track below and let me know what you think of it.

Dwele W.ants.W.orld.W.omen.

After a long 2 year wait and some main stream success with his Mc Donalds Mc Café commercial “bah da bah bah bahhhhhh” as well as a huge feature on Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights”. Dwele is now officially set to drop his 4th studio album entitled W.ants. W.orld. W.omen. (W.W.W.).  The album will be set for release this month on June 29th, following his last masterpiece of an album Sketches of a Man.  Which included the single “I’m Cheatin,” and my favorite single “Vain” which I’m bumping write now as you read on.

To further explain the title of his album Dwele show’s off one of his many other talents with these 3 commercial’s representing the 3 W’s that he directed/ produced. I lost count on how many times I’ve watched these commercials because they are straight genius by the way he advertises each “W” word, while blessing our ear’s with a taste of a single off the album towards the end of the commercial. The W.orld commercial is by far my favorite showcasing the hot single “How I Deal” featuring T3 from Slum Village.

Dwele explains that the “W.W.W. is separated into three sections to represent different aspects of himself as an artist.” I can’t wait for this album to drop because Dwele has yet to let me down. From the singles I’ve heard so far the album will have a little bit of everything on it from soul, jazz, hip hop, to R&B. Expect features from Slum Village, DJ Quik, David Banner, Raheem Devaughn, and Monica Blair.

The first single off the album is entitled “Whats Not To Love.” You can listen to the track for your listening pleasure below.

Dwele Keep RIZEing to the Top + Bonus

BamaLoveSoul has made a great post, offering up a collection of Dwele’s unreleased tracks.

Snippet from BamaLoveSoul

“Dwele’s demo, which is also considered his first album, 1998’s Rize, was sold out of the trunk of his car exuding the DIY ethic that is much more prevalent nowadays. Bubbling over with warm Rhodes, unconventional lyrics and soul, soul, soul it helped him score a deal with Virgin where he released his first studio album Subject in 2003. He’s continued to release albums since then and has become an industry favorite.”

BONUS

Plus as a bonus, Soulified is offering Dwele’s Lost Track Of Time EP from 2005.  It was released on vinyl, and has six tracks.  It features 3 “Chinchilla Beats”, 2 of which are snippets from tracks 1 & 2, and the third a new instrumental. Enjoy.
