At the 41st NAACP Awards, Jill Scott unleashed a powerful song from her upcoming album “The Light Of The Sun”.  Basically she breaks it down, and puts it in a way that no one else has been able to previously.  That’s powerful.  This song is also available for download via the NAACP for $.99.  All proceeds go to help Haiti.

Jill Scott’s “Light of the Sun” Slated for 1st Half of 2010

Website/Facebook/MySpace/

Well… 2010 is turning to be a great year for music lovers. It was announced that Jill Scott will be blessing us with “Light of the Sun”.  This being her fifth album, and the follow up to her 2007 album “The Real Thing”.  The album has a tentative release date of August 1st.  There isn’t much else known about the album beyond that information.  Along with that album release, she has two movies “Why Did I get Married Too“, and “Sins of the Mother“, and a Marvel/BET mini-series cartoon “Black Panther” being releases in the first half of the year.

Artist Spotlight: Chinah Blac

Spiritual.  That is the one word that describes Chinah Blac.  You should know her, since you have heard her before, but may have not been aware.  She has been singing background vocals for Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and also Dave Matthews.  It’s great to find an artist like Chinah Blac.  She just released the video “Get Away”, which is a single form her recent debut album “Introducing Eugenia Shata“.  That album debuted this past summer, to very good critical review. My review is coming this weekend.

Chinah Blac also releasing an upcoming mixtape titled “Eargasmic”, in the upcoming weeks.  It was set to be released last month, but I guess it has been delayed a little. I really can’t wait to hear the mixtape.  I don’t know if it’s new material or samples from her current album.  The mixtape features the following artists on the mixtape, R.Devaughn, Musiq, Wes Felton, DJ Conscience and Black Ice.  It should be a very good mixtape, that should help fill the Fall slow period.

New contests for new albums

Blacksummers' Night

Good afternoon.  Just a friendly reminder of two great albums coming our this summer, which is turning out to be pretty good for releases.  I just wish they would spread them out through the year, and the winter and spring won’t be so dry.  Anyway, we have Maxwell’s long awaited Blacksummers’ Night album arriving July 7th.  I’ve pre-ordered my copy of the Deluxe CD/DVD, and you can do so here @ Amazon.

Ledisi

Also we have Ledisi dropping her album “Turn Me Loose” on August 18th.  It will be her 5th album.  I can’t wait to hear this one.  I even picked up her Christmas album to get my fix.  It was great of course. When she came to Memphis last year, it was an unreal show. To me her show was one of the best Soul concerts I’ve ever seen.  The other great was Jill Scott, and 3rd is Frankie Beverly and Maze.  Last year was a great year for concerts in Memphis. Focus Eric. Here is a sample of her song Alone from the new album.

Upcoming album releases…. Get Ready

Here are some of the albums that I am really looking forward this spring and summer. Which ones are you looking forward to being released?

To Whom It May Concern

Choklate – To Whom It May Concern: May 9th, 2009. She is one of my favorite artist from 2007. I was just entranced by her voice. I was very happy when she announced that she had a new album coming May 9th, 2009.

Black Summers Night

Maxwell – BlackSummersNight: July 7th, 2009. Maxwell is saying its the first in a trilogy of albums to be released. I don’t know how much time will be between the three albums, but let’s hope it’s not as long as hit last album, and this one. Yesterday he posted a a song from the new album, Prettywings. I can’t find the link, but I’m glad i snagged it before it was gone. Click here to get it.
