Sade Releases Video for “Babyfather”

Yesterday Sade released her second video/third single “Babyfather”, from her blockbuster album “Solider Of Love“.  On this single Sade has her daughter singing with her, which sounds wonderful.  The video follows Sade normal video formula.  Which is striking visuals, and simple symbolisms throughout.  Even though she has a formula, it works and I can’t wait for the next video.  I’m really loving the new Sade that we get to see and appreciate more than the mythical image of Sade from before.

Sade On April Ebony Magazine Cover

Returning from her hiatus, and making all her media rounds, Sade will appear on the April cover of Ebony magazine.  In the issue she discusses her ten year gap between albums, her daughter, and relationships.  The issue hits new-stands next week on March 9th.    Below is a snippet of the article.

With her highly anticipated album, Soldier of Love, recently topping the charts, Nigerian-born singer Sade, has definitely made the 10-year wait worthwhile. But, what has she been up to during this mysterious hiatus? The notoriously private superstar gave Ebony an exclusive peek into her world outside of the studio. “I’ve had my ups and downs in the years between these albums, said Sade. “That’s partly why I’m able to write songs that people in some way can hear. I express feelings, real feelings.”

Just in case you have been living under a rock, Sade has released her long awaited album, “Soldier Of Lover” today. It’s been ten years since her last release.  To also kick off the release, she appeared on the Today Show this morning.  She has a brief interview and then singes the title track to the album “Soldier OF Love”.  Enjoy.

Behind the Scenes Of Sade’s “Soldier Of Love” Recording

A rare behind the scenes look at Sade, during the recording of her soon to be released “Soldier Of Love”.  For me to see a recent video of Sade, relaxed and being herself is unreal.  To hear her voice, was the first thing that threw me.  Her voice is a lot deeper than I imagined.  Then to see her working on that orange iBook was the icing. A musical superstar being a Mac user, but using a 10 year old laptop.  Priceless.  Enjoy.

In the lead up to February 8th release of Sade’s “Soldier Of Love”, she has released two new singles “Moon and the Sky” and “In Another Time”.  Both songs sound great, and really shows you what good music should sound like.  Enough talking, on to the music.

Upcoming Albums To Watch For

It’s a new year, and the party is over.  Now it’s time to get back to business.  The past few months have been kind of dry on the retail music front.  It looks like Spring 2010, will change all that.

January Releases

Maysa – Woman In Love (January 25)

Corinne Bailey Rae -The Sea (January 26)

February Releases

Solider Of Love By Sade (Feb. 10)

New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) By Erykah Badu (February 23): Everyone is awaiting this follow up album to New Amerykah Part One.  Here is how Erykah Badu describes the album “I called it ‘Part II: The Return of the Ankh’ because this album is the sister of the left side of my brain — it is the right side,” Badu explained during a listening session this week at New York City’s Chung King Studios. “‘Part I was the left side of my thoughts — it was more socially political and my thought process was more analytical. This time there wasn’t anything to be concerned with — the album is more emotional and flowy and talks about feelings. It reminds of the days of ‘Baduizm’ — this is just about beats and rhymes in a cipher.”

The Love and War Masterpeace by Raheem DeVaugh (February 16)

Kings Ballad by Georgia Anne Muldrow (February 9)

Concrete Jungle by Nneka (February 2)

March Releases

It’s Personal by Angela Johnson (March)

Intermission/The Bitter Suite By Carmen Rodgers (March 30)

April And Beyond

Synthesis By Raul Midon (April 13)

Milk And Honey By Goapele (spring)

Purple Saint James By Yahzarah (spring): With this upcoming album, being her third, I really feel music blossoming.  After listening to her two previous albums, and then to her “The Prelude” EP, it’s a whole new world.  So, personally I can’t wait for the album, so I can really enjoy this musical phoenix.  She has also signed with The Foreign Exchange Music, so you know that all add extra goodness to the production.

SunStorm By Zo! (unknown): After the recent “…Just Visiting Too” EP that was released, more people are coming to appreciate his music and talent.  There is also the “…Just Visiting” EP, which was released in 2006.

James River By D’Angelo (spring/summer): People have been talking about this album for a year or two.  It will be ten years since his last album.  A tour is also rumored this summer.  The whispers have been getting stronger lately, with the news of the artists that he has working on the album.  This is what his manager said of those collaborations,” “James River,” D’Angelo’s first studio effort in nearly 9 years, is also sporting a collaboration with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo Green. Green joins Raphael Saadiq, Mark Ronson, and Roy Hargrove, who have already contributed to D’Angelo’s forthcoming album.”  It has also been reported that he is teaming up with Prince.

Darien Brockington (unknown): This release would be his second solo album, after “Somebody To Love”. The wait just got a lot harder with his latest EP “Cold Case Files“.

Good news got even better.  We discussed last week about Sade releasing the single tomorrow, on the radio.  It’s been updated that you can listen to the single on her website Sade.com, starting tomorrow at 7:00AM EST NOW.  So, no need to find an online radio station and such.  I know that site will be busy and slow, so we’ll have it here for you by 7:15AM EST.  How is that for service?

Update: It’s 7:00AM somewhere right? Here is the single “Soldier Of Love”, from her upcoming Feb 8th, 2010 release of the same titled album.  Enjoy that aural deliciousness.  It’s been a long time coming, Sade fans. Enjoy.

Sade FINALLY!!!!! Solider Of Love February 8th, 2010

Sade - Soldier Of Love - The new album - Worldwide release February 8th 2010

Website/MySpace/Facebook

Well…… It finally happened.  Sade has announced the date for her album, Solider Of Love.  It has been dated to release February 8th, 2010.  You can pre-order the album from Amazon.  I haven’t seen an iTunes pre-order link yet.  I’m not going to bore you with how long it’s been since her last album (9 years). Not even going to talk about how old she will be when the album is released (51 years old).  Or that her first album came out in 1985, and rocked the world.  What I will say, is that I will be giving away a few albums to celebrate this great day. :)

Sade Adu and her band mates have been in the studio since June, in the UK.  They completed recording in October.  I have a great feeling about this album.  If you remember Maxwell had heard an early version album, and said “Trust me, it’s so monolithic it’ll shake you in your shoes!” Go ahead and do your happy dance, we’ve waited long enough.

Sade’s Site is Updated

Sade Updates

Morning people.  I was doing my normal morning surfing, and found something very nice.  Sade’s US website has been updated with a new look, and a forum for her fans.  There isn’t any new album info, but this helps confirm that. After going through the forum I’ve added a few of the fan sites links for you.  Hopefully there will be an announcement of her new album.  After doing more searching, a French site is saying to expect a November release os this album.  I don’t know where they are getting that info, but we’ll see.

UPDATE: 7-16-09 Just thought that I would keep everyone up on any changes with Sade’s upcoming album that is rumored.

1. So far Sony hasn’t confirmed an album release date, let alone a November 24th, 2009 date.

2. A new site popped up Sade2009.com. It’s NOT a official Sade site.  She already has two official sites, along with a Facebook and a MySpace, which hardly get updated.  This Sade2009.com is a fake, and the person is trying to further his own web design company. For the full run down go here.

3. Billboard has a great article on the whole issue. There has been confirmation from her band that new material is being worked on, and a possible late 2009 release.  Cross your fingers.

Muhsinah…. A quite strength

Muhsinah

Website Myspace FaceBook Twitter Youtube

There isn’t a way to describe Muhsinah.  I learned about her, when I was posting over at Brown Sugar.  She has a very different style, complex style that takes a good ear to really appreciate, and understand.  Once you get it, you’re hooked.  Then you find out that she has been making music for a few years, and a few albums under her belt.  In 2005, she released The Oscillations EP. Then in 2007 she released day.break. In 2008 she really exploded with her releases.  pre.lude, day.break 2.0, The Oscillations:Sine, and The Oscillations: Triangle. This year she released The Oscillations: 2XLP, which is a compilation of the previous two  The Oscillations albums.  A good portion of her albums are mp3 format only, so, iTunes and Amazon has them available to purchase.

Learning more about her, and her music you see something that is becoming very common on the web.  That common item is the absence of big music companies influence.  She is a model of an independent artist.  Her site is very professional, and feature rich.  She can release EP and singles as she pleases.  Also she can connect directly and often to her fans, and offer freebies.  This is something that I am very excited about for future artists arriving in the Soul music genre.  This is all extra, in addition to her great talent.  This is something that not all artists can do.  Just imagine if Sade had a site and fan connectivity like Muhsinah?  I’m very glad the music industry hasn’t caught up to the times.  It gives the fans a really chance to enjoy, and be apart of the music that we all love. Other artists that have similar independence are Ayah, and Amanda Diva.

Oh, you know that great song Daykeeper from Foreign Exchange?  She is on that also.  Download it free here.

Natalie Gardiner, the Fix you didn’t know you needed

Natalie Gardiner

Website MySpace Twitter FaceBook

You know how you try some new food dish, and wonder how you have lived without it?  That is Natalie Gardiner.  Before last month, I had never heard of her or her two albums.  Sad, I know.  Well… now that I know about her, everything is right in the world.  Normally when I find a new (to me) artist, I liten to the most recent album, and work backwards.  That’s one of the benefits of finding unknown artists. Natalie’s most recent album is California, which has a Sade-esque feel to it, but a little more subdued vibe to it.  It flows along, with not a single bump, and it’s a wonderful ride.  her debut self titled album, Natalie Gardiner has more diversity in the styles displayed on the album.  It still has a subdued tone to it.  My favorite song on California, is “Slowly Softly”, which the video is below.  On her debut album Natalie Gardiner, it’s “Now I got Worry”.
